2007 Porsche Boxster S

2007 Boxster S Provides Best of Both Worlds With powerful engines purposely positioned immediately behind the driver’s and passenger’s seats to optimize the outstanding balance of an especially athletic chassis, the 2007 Porsche Boxster S satisfies enthusiast drivers with exceptional levels of dynamic capabilities. At the same time, Porsche roadster provides styling that is thoroughly modern while carrying forward cues from the company’s rich heritage.

The Boxster takes its name from its horizontally opposed “boxer” six-cylinder engine architecture and its classic, two-seat, open-air “roadster” chassis structure.

While the driving experience certainly is enhanced by being exposed to the elements, all Boxster S models come with an electronically powered convertible roof that can be open or closed even while the vehicle is in motion.

New for 2007

In the new model year, which begins on August 1, the Boxster S will be given more power and torque. This mid-engined sports car will then offer even better road performance and low fuel consumption. The optional Tiptronic S transmission and the Sport Chrono Package have been given additional functions. For the first time, the Boxster and Boxster S are available with the 19-inch turbo forged alloy two-tone wheels that were developed exclusively for the new 911 Turbo.

More Power, More Efficiently

The 2007 Boxster S engine has four-valves per cylinder, with hydraulic valve play compensation, cylinder-specific knock control and separate coils with solid-state high-voltage distributor systems.

The engine, which has been increased in size from 3.2 to 3.4 liters, develops 295 bhp at 6,250 rpm – 15 bhp more than its predecessor – and 254 lb-ft of torque. The Boxster S sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds – a tenth of a second quicker than the previous model. This open sports car’s top speed has gone up by 3 mph to 170 mph.

The Boxster S exhales through twin round pipes mounted at the center of the lower rear fascia. Careful airflow management from intake through exhaust also allows fine-tuning of the audible emissions from the 2007 Porsche Boxster S.

Gearing Up the Boxster S

The Boxster S can be supplied with the revised Tiptronic S transmission, which has new hydraulics and electronics as well as variable shift programs. When combined with the Sport Chrono Package, the sporty characteristics of both this mid-engine roadster can be experienced even more intensely: up- and downshifts are made only at engine speeds above 3000 rpm; downshifts for engine braking are subject to less delay and take place at higher engine speeds. In the manual-shift mode, up-shifts are not made automatically when the engine reaches its maximum rev limit.

Interior Provides Support and Comfort

The interior of Porsche’s roadster provides both comfort for cruising and the support needed for dynamic driving.

The dashboard, interior door panels and the sides of the center console are covered in a special durable material that looks much like leather while the gearshift lever, steering wheel rim, handbrake lever handle and door handles are covered in leather. Aluminum-look trim is used around air vents and on the gearshift lever.

All seats in the second-generation Boxster S are mounted as low as possible, helping to lower the center of gravity and enhance driving dynamics. This lower seating position also increases the available headroom when the convertible top covers the passenger compartment. Base Price: 2007 Porsche Boxster S - $55,500 / 53,099
